Jersey’s Offshore Reefs

One of the special aspects of being a sea kayaker in Jersey are the number and variety of offshore reefs, waiting to be explored. All of the reefs are designated as Ramsar sites, with each area have a management plan focussed on conservation and appropriate use of the these amazing places. The 3 areas are Les Minquiuers, Les Écréhous and Les Dirouilles and Les Pierres de Lecq (better known as the Paternosters). All are incredible kayaking destinations.

Les Minquiers lies approximately 12 nautical miles south of Jersey and is the largest in area, there are a number of small huts and an incredible low tide sand bank. Les Écréhous and Les Dirouilles lie approximately 5 nautical miles north east of the island. Les Écréhous are the busiest and you are unlikely to have the area to yourself, even in mid week in January. They are justifiably popular. Les Dirouilles are rarely visited by other boats and are relatively easy crossing on the Spring tide. The Paternoster’s are off the north west corner of the island and you would be really unlucky if you saw anybody else out there.

All superb paddling destinations, some more popular with Club members than others.
