The Jersey Canoe Club has a Nordkapp weekend, scheduled to take place on the island from 23rd-26th May 2025. It promises to be a really enjoyable event for paddling enthusiasts. The picturesque island of Jersey, with its dramatic coastline, clear waters, and rich maritime heritage, provides the perfect backdrop for a gathering of Nordkapp paddlers.

The Nordkapp kayak, first launched in 1975, is an iconic design revered for its unparalleled performance in challenging waters, has long been a favourite among serious paddlers. Designed for the 1975 Nordkapp expedition it has been hugely influential in the development of modern sea kayaking. Paddling historians will be aware of its use by Paul Caffyn on his numerous expeditions. Jersey Canoe Club groups have used the Nordkapp on the following trips:
1978 – first circumnavigation of Ireland
1980 – circumnavigation of Outer Hebrides
1981 – Jersey to Weymouth
1983 – West coast of Spitsbergen
1986 – Tromso to Nordkapp
1993 – West coast of Greenland
The list is endless with numerous Channel Island trips, Scotland, Wales, France, Spain, Lofoten Islands, Faeroes, Vancouver Island, Germany, Denmark etc.

Sea kayaking in the Jersey Canoe Club has been linked to the Nordkapp, with the Club being formed in 1974, 1 year before the birth of the Nordkapp.
There are a number of designs from the classic HM to the Førti. This will be the third meet in Jersey is set to celebrate this influential kayak.
The Nordkapp weekend spans the late May Bank Holiday, starting on Friday evening and concluding on Monday. Participants can look forward to a variety of activities designed to cater to paddlers of all skill levels. Guided paddling tours around Jersey’s stunning coastline will be available each day. These tours may explore iconic locations such as the towering cliffs of Grosnez, the hidden corners of St Brelade, and the dramatic tidal races. If weather conditions permit there will also be trips to some of the offshore reefs. Experienced and qualified local sea kayakers will lead the trips, sharing their knowledge of the island’s unique tidal range, physical features and hidden treasures.

In addition to the on-water activities, there will be a number of evening activities, including a BBQ in an 18th century fort and a meal in local restaurant.
